Dear Participant,

As you know, MS Australia’s reason for staging the MS Horseride is to raise funds to support the
programs and services we provide to over 10,000 people in NSW, VIC and ACT living with
multiple sclerosis.

Over the years the MS Horseride community has been one of our strongest fundraising groups.

In recent years our events calendar has grown to include the MS Mega Swims, MS Walk & Fun Run and
Melbourne Summer Cycle. Participation and fundraising through these events has also grown dramatically.
For example our MS Sydney to the Gong Bike Ride has grown from raising $100,000 five years ago to
$3.2 million last year in fundraising alone.

This is fantastic for people with MS and has allowed us to expand the range and level of programs and
services available to them.

The Events team is flat out working on these events. As their number and scale has grown larger and larger
the demands on the team have also increased and the timing of the Horseride in September coincides with
our busiest time of the year. We’ve considered staging the ride in Autumn but that creates other issues with
water and property owners, for example.

After last year’s ride we conducted a new risk assessment which identified significant challenges for
us involving additional costs and infrastructure. All of the above was factored into a review of our events
program. To put it simply, the MS Horseride is very expensive and time consuming to stage and takes
a large chuck of our resources. While those riders who fundraise work really hard and are incredibly
passionate and committed to supporting our cause the reality is that the Horseride is no
longer sustainable.

Regretably we have no option but to no longer stage the MS Horseride.

We know that many of you and will be disappointed and saddened by this decision. The Events team is also disappointed and sad. There was something very special and beautiful about the MS Horseride, its riders, volunteers and the local communities that embraced it and we know that many friendships and memories
were made on the rides.

However this is the right decision for our work in support of people with MS. It’s those people we have to
have at the centre of our decision making.

On behalf of MS Australia and the people living with MS who have benefitted from your support over the last
14 years - Thank You.

Thank you for volunteering your time, expertise, equipment and vehicles. Thank You for your inspiring
fundraising, for buying and selling raffle tickets and donating and buying at our auctions. Thank You for
coming along, for spreading the word and for being so passionate about the ride. Thank You even for
ignoring the rules, arguing with us and everything else you did that made that last week of September
so amazing.

Thank you all for sending through your favourite MS Horseride photos. Going back through all your old
photos and also ours has bought back so many amazing memories and only reminded us what a great
event the MS Horseride has been over the years. We hope you take the time to look back through the history
of the ride and enjoy the photos as much as we did.

All the best

The MS Events team,
Karl, Vanessa, Georgina, Sarsha, Ali, Monique, Becky and Kerry
